Thank you for your interest in the German Language School Ottawa (GLS).
Founded in 1971 by the German-speaking community, the school runs Saturday school classes for elementary students (JK to Grade 8) and credit level courses (Grades 9 to 12) in cooperation with the Ottawa French Catholic School Board as part of the Ministry of Education’s International Languages program.
As an additional service to our members and the German-speaking community we offer German classes for adults (currently limited to the parents of our students) and special classes to prepare students for German language diplomas.
All classes are taught by experienced instructors who are dedicated to creating a vibrant learning community for our students.
The goal of our courses are to help children and teens acquire a solid foundation in the German language in terms of speaking, reading, writing, grammar, literature, geography, history and culture.
The school has a well equipped library that includes a variety of German books and DVDs.
Cultural programs running throughout the year offer students an opportunity to enhance and practice their language skills, as well as to enjoy a variety of fun activities while deepening their understanding of some of the key traditions celebrated in German-speaking countries.
The school is an incorporated not-for-profit organization and has an elected Board of Directors.
